KATHMANDU, Sept 21: The scheduled meeting of the Finance and International Relations Committee, slated for today under the House of Representatives, has been postponed. The delay was attributed to parliamentarians' inability to reach Singha Durbar on time, a consequence of the Nepal Teachers' Federation's ongoing street protests.
The meeting of the Finance and International Relations and Tourism Committee, initially called for 11 AM, had to be postponed due to the lack of a quorum. Santosh Chalise, Chairman of the Finance Committee, disclosed that the meeting had to be adjourned due to the quorum not being met. He explained that, as some Members of Parliament were currently outside their districts, another meeting would be scheduled once their availability could be ensured.
HoR second session put off in lack of quorum
Today's agenda for the Finance Committee meeting included discussions on the draft of the committee's procedures and various topics. With a total of 24 MPs in the committee, a quorum requires the presence of 13 MPs. However, only 11 MPs were present at the meeting. As per the House of Representatives' rules, if a quorum is not met within half an hour, the meeting must be adjourned.
Similarly, the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee has also been postponed due to insufficient quorum. This committee comprises 27 members, with 14 MPs expected to attend the meeting. Unfortunately, only 12 were present, leading to the meeting's deferment.
