KATHMANDU, March 6: Police have arrested an individual for obtaining illegal financial benefits by opening a fake Facebook ID and defrauding unsuspecting individuals.

A team of police officials deployed from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office (KVCIO), on Tuesday, arrested 27-year-old Narayan Dutta Khakural, a resident of Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality-7, Dhading, currently residing in Tarkeshwor Municipality-5, Kathmandu, Lolang Heights.

According to the KVCIO, he created a fake Facebook ID in the name of people employed abroad and asked for money from their relatives by making them believe that they were admitted to the hospital due to illness and needed money. Police have reported that he then asked the relatives of the individuals engaged in foreign employment to send the money to various shops in the valley. He would claim that he did not have any bank account and that the money sent to the shops would be deposited in his account.

The KVCIO has stated that Khakurel has been sent to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for necessary investigation and action.
