Army thumped University Sports Association Nepal (USAN) 25-14, 25-14, 26-24 in the second match of the day.
According to Nepal Volleyball Association, the tournament features the top six men´s teams and top four women´s teams of NVA Cup Volleyball.
Three departmental teams -- Nepal Police Club, Nepal Army Club and Armed Police Force (APF) -- along with USAN, G-4 Sports Club and Western Regional Volleyball Training Center are competing in the men´s section. The women´s section features Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Force, New Diamond Sports Club and Western Regional Volleyball Training Center.
The top three teams at the end of both the men´s and women´s leagues will be awarded Rs 150,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. The best player will be awarded Rs 25,000. Similarly, best players in five positions will get Rs 5,000 each.
Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama inaugurated the tournament organized by NVA, handing over the match ball to international volleyball referee Gautam Prasad Lasiba.
Inaugurating the tournament, Lama said NSC is ready to support NVA as it has become very active in recent days. "Earlier, NVA was one of the inactive associations but after the election of new leadership, NVA has impressed NSC with its programs," said Lama.
NVA President Dan Bahadur Tamang said the association under his leadership has organized and initiated altogether 22 tournaments -- 13 in men´s section and nine in women´s section -- within a year.
