KATHMANDU, Jan 29:   Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted the Nepal Startup and SME Conference as a platform for promoting new products and attracting investors.

Speaking at the inaugural session in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Wednesday, Deuba said that the event would encourage local entrepreneurship, create self-employment opportunities for youth, and open doors for investment. He expressed confidence that fostering startups and small enterprises could help Nepal’s economy recover from the global recession.

Similarly, Deuba stressed the need for policies to support entrepreneurship, particularly among youth and women. He said that small investments in startups could generate employment and self-reliance, urging government support through concessional loans, skill development programs, and grants.

He also highlighted the formation of the Department of Entrepreneurship and SME Development to assist small business owners and address legal challenges. Deuba called for balanced economic development, emphasizing the role of technology, natural resources, and political stability.

The two-day conference will feature discussions on economic transformation through innovation and entrepreneurship, aiming to produce a report with policy recommendations and strategies to enhance local production and investment.
