Naya Gorakh Battalion wins football title

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Naya Gorakh Battalion won the football title held under the CoAS Trophy on Sunday, defeating Naya Sabuj Battalion 1-0 in the final at THE Army Headquarters football ground in Bhadrakali.

Mangal Singh Waiba scored the decisive goal for Naya Gorakh Battalion in the 70th minute to seal victory on the wet pitch caused by a brief spell of shower.Naya Sabuj Battalion had a good chance to equalize just two minutes later after being awarded a penalty for an opponent's handball. However, Arbindra Chaudhary failed to score from the spot in the 72nd minute.

Shree Sarbagyadal Battalion finished third in the internal competition of the Nepal Army that featured 18 teams in football.

The top three teams received Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 from CoAS Rajendra Chhetri.

The inter-division tournament of army features competition in 12 different events - volleyball, basketball, football, handball, taekwondo, boxing, cycling, athletics, swimming, rugby, kabaddi and tug-of-war and will conclude on October 16, according to Lt Col Ram Kaji Rana Magar.
