The MoE has expressed concern following complaints that some of the schools are running classes without making any safety assessment of their buildings.
Only 1,300 out of 1,900 private schools in the Valley had made safety assessment of their buildings before they reopened on Sunday. Such schools too have arranged a makeshift until the maintenance is done. Schools damaged in the earthquake will have to make temporary arrangements to run the classes until their buildings are repaired or reconstructed.Government officials have also stressed assessing the damaged school buildings using building code standards.
Lalitpur District Education Officer Shiva Sapkota said his office would prepare a report with details of the damage suffered by each school in the district. At least 23 children were killed on the school premise in the earthquake on April 25.
In the 14 districts worst affected by the quake, over 6,000 schools, 19,000 classrooms, 2000 toilets and drinking water facilities have been damaged.
For reconstruction, community schools running classes up to grade three received Rs75, 000 while those running classes up to grade five received Rs 125,000. Likewise, Rs 200,000 has been allocated for schools running classes up to grade eight and Rs 250,000 for schools running classes up to grade 10.
