SIRAHA, June 5: Lahan police has arrested two people with 88 kg of marijuana from Lahan in the district on Friday morning.

The arrested are Khin Bahadur Magar, 48, and Ganga Bahadur Magar of Muksar VDC-1, informed DSP Uma Prasad Chaturbedi of Area Police Office, Lahan.

Acting on a tip-off that smugglers were transporting illegal narcotics to India via Bishnupurkatti, a special squad from Lahan Area Police Office had tracked the smugglers down and detained them with the marijuana.

According to DSP Chaturbedi, the smugglers and police exchanged fire for a while in which smuggler Ganga Magar sustained injuries to his leg. Aside from the narcotics, police have also recovered one US-made automatic pistol, one magazine and its six rounds of bullets, said Chaturbedi.

Of the four, two smugglers managed to escape by opening fires in the sky.
