Judiciary consultations wrap up

KATHMANDU, July 5: Consultations on Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and judiciary with legal experts initiated by the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee formed to resolve disputes related to constitution drafting concluded on Tuesday.



Legal experts, including the President of Nepal Bar Association, took part in discussions as decided by the last meeting of the Sub-Committee led by Maoist Chairman Dahal.[break]



Chairman of Constitutional Committee and Sub-Committee’s invited member Nilambar Acharya said several views were received during consultations with legal experts on whether or not Constitutional Court is needed.



He expressed hope that the Sub-Committee will resolve the disputes pertaining to the report of judiciary system by incorporating both the suggestions that Constitutional Court shouldn’t be formed parallel to Supreme Court and that Constitutional Court should be established to examine constitutionality in view of special rights.



Sub-Committee member and Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi said some legal experts couldn’t prove that why Constitutional Court shouldn’t be established.



Some experts gave examples about the collapse of Constitutional Court in some countries, while the others maintained that it was meaningless to seek an alternative to Supreme Court, Nidhi said.
