The "Harry Potter" author purchased the boat after enjoying a holiday onboard with husband Neil and their two children, David and MACkenzie, last year, reported Daily Mirror.
Rowling, 50, fell in love with the charm of the 156-foot liner, which Depp spent more than 5 million pound refurbishing. He previously named the yacht Vajoliroja after his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children Lily-Rose and Jack.
However, he split from the mother of his children in 2012 and he later he renamed the yacht Amphitrite when he married new wife Amber Heard.
Depp went on to sell the vessel to an American shipping magnate for an undisclosed price.
The yacht caters for watersports, and comes complete with a home cinema, satellite TV, and video games.
