Five Nepalis returning from Maha Kumbh killed in jeep accident

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Five Nepali citizens of the same family returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India were killed when a jeep they were travelling in met with an accident in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. Four people were injured in the accident.

Pilgrims from Manara Shiswa Municipality of Mahottari were travelling in a Scorpio (BR 32 PA 4661) that met with an accident near Madhubani temple on Saturday afternoon.

Mantarana Devi, Balkrishna Jha, Archana Thakur, Indu Devi and the driver died on the spot when the speeding jeep suddenly overturned.

Manohar Thakur, Kamini Jha, Srishti Thakur and another person injured in the accident are in critical condition. The injured have been sent to SKMCH Hospital for treatment. According to the District Police Office (DPO), Dhanusha, Manohar Thakur, who is also a personnel in Nepal Police, was one of the injured.

According to the information received by the DPO, the deceased were on their way back to Nepal after taking bath in the Maha Kumbh and were headed for Varanasi via Ayodhya. Eyewitnesses have claimed that the jeep lost control while trying to save a motorcycle while it was speeding.
