Vehicle collision kills 10, injures 19 Maha Kumbh pilgrims

A major accident occurred in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, around 2 AM on Friday night. A Bolero carrying devotees from Chhattisgarh to the Maha Kumbh lost control and collided with an oncoming bus near Manu Ke Pura village.

KATHMANDU, Feb 15: A major accident occurred in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, around 2 AM on Friday night. A Bolero carrying devotees from Chhattisgarh to the Maha Kumbh lost control and collided with an oncoming bus near Manu Ke Pura village. 


The accident took place on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway under the Meja police station area, completely wrecking the Bolero. According to Indian media reports, 10 devotees traveling in the Bolero died on the spot, while 19 others sustained injuries.

All the Bolero passengers were residents of Korba district in Chhattisgarh and were on their way to the Kumbh Mela for a holy dip at the Sangam. Meanwhile, 19 devotees in the bus, who had completed their pilgrimage and were traveling to Varanasi, were also injured. They were admitted to Ramnagar CHC for treatment. These passengers were residents of Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh. 


Upon receiving the information, the police used a JCB machine to extract the trapped bodies from the Bolero and sent them for post-mortem. The accident occurred after the Bolero driver fell asleep at the wheel, according to reports.
