KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to retain Ranjita Shrestha as Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).
A recent national gathering of the NUP held in Kathmandu had elected Lalbir Chaudhary as chair on July 31. Claiming the leadership position of the party, Chaudhary had filed an application with the EC seeking an update to the party’s official records.
However, the EC decided that Shrestha will remain the party’s chair, citing provisions of the Political Parties Act and the party’s statute.
