Discharged PLA to protest SC decision

KATHMANDU, April 28: Expressing disagreement with the Supreme Court´s decision, Discharged Former People´s Liberation Army (DFPLA) has warned of taking to the streets and obstructing day-to-day activities of the government in protest of the decision.



“We will enforce a nationwide shutdown and picket government offices throughout the country. We will continue to obstruct regular activities of the government until our demands are met,” said Sagar Limbu, in-charge of DFPLA informing that his organization would first introduce informal programs. DFPLA will bring formal struggle program only after concluding its national conference. The first national convention of the DFPLA is scheduled for next month.[break]



SC had scrapped the government´s decision on providing cash package to the discharged combatants. “We protest the Supreme Court´s decision,” added Limbu. The Baburam Bhattarai-led coalition government had decided to provide Rs 200,000 to each of 4,008 disqualified combatants. The move had also faced opposition from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.



Former Prime Minister Bhattarai and his office, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Peace and Re-construction had been made defendants in the writ petition filed at the apex court.



Last year, the disqualified combatants had staged sit-in at the UCPN (Maoist) head office for 40 days. They had staged a 30-day protest at the same venue in 2011.
