Daily turnover escalates to Rs 8.09 billion while NEPSE dips 38.10 points

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday plunged 38.10 points to close at 2,781.10 points.

The market opened at 2,819.10 points, initially inclined to the day’s high at 2,824.78 points in the first 20 minutes. For the next one hour, the index remained almost stable, while the market went downhill in the remaining period before it closed for the day.

Eleven out of the 13 groups were the losers. As life insurance declined by the largest of 219.96 points, a total of four groups lost three-digit points in their market values. Non-life insurance and mutual funds grew by 2.44 points and 0.02 points, respectively.  

The sensitive index which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies declined 5.74 points. The daily turnover however jumped to Rs 8.09 billion from Rs 7.68 billion on Wednesday. 

Among the individual companies, 24 were gainers while 227 were recorded as losers. Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 654.40 million.

Oriental Hotels Limited with a decline of 4.71 percent in its market price stood as the highest loser. Bikash Hydropower Company was the topmost gainer.
