Daily turnover suffers loss of Rs 1.35 billion as NEPSE sheds 11.10 points

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday went down by 11.10 points to close at 2,654.35 points, while the daily turnover plunged by Rs 1.35 billion.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday went down by 11.10 points to close at 2,654.35 points, while the daily turnover plunged by Rs 1.35 billion.


The secondary market opened at 2,665.45 points and hit the day’s high at Rs 2,681.28 points in the first 25 minutes. The index then went downhill and reached as low as 2,645.31 points in the last 23 minutes of trading hours. During the remaining period, the market recovered around nine points before it closed for the day.

Two groups—development banks and manufacturing and processing—gained 45.88 points and 0.35 points, respectively. Of the 11 losers, non-life insurance shed the largest of 94.92 points.


The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, suffered a loss of 1.99 points. Daily turnover plummeted to Rs 7.85 billion from Rs 9.20 billion on Wednesday.


Among the individual companies, 86 were gainers while 149 were registered as losers. Saptakoshi Development Bank enjoyed the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 308.92 million.


Two companies, including Super Madi Hydropower Limited and Mandakini Hydropower Limited, lost the highest of 10 percent of their market values. Likewise, three companies—Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, Corporate Development Bank and Sikles Hydropower Limited—were recorded as the topmost gainers.
