BIRATNAGAR, Sept 24: With the announcement of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to stage check points and Highways-based protests, Biratnagar checkpoint has been brought to a grinding halt since early Thursday.

According to Krishna Basnet, Chief at Biratnagar Custom Office, not even a single vehicle has passed into Nepal from India.

"No vehicles have come into Nepal through Biratnagar checkpoint since early today," said Basnet

Basnet said he has not been informed about any vehicular obstruction by the Indian side either.

Over 150 containers carrying goods including raw materials for industries, food-stuffs, cooking-oil pass into Nepal through Biratnagar check-point everyday.

When inquired by the officials at the Biratnagar Custom Office, Indian side said they sent back the containers citing security reasons posed by strikes enforced by the 'agents'.
