KATHMANDU, March 29: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a reception on Friday evening to mark the 55th Anniversary of Independence and National Day.
The event, held at a hotel in Kathmandu, was attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest. The reception drew a wide presence of ambassadors and heads of mission, ministers and political leaders, senior government officials, business representatives, members of civil society, media personnel, and the Bangladeshi community in Nepal.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Nepal Md Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to the freedom fighters of Bangladesh’s Liberation War and acknowledged Nepal’s moral and material support during that period. He reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Nepal, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, energy, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The ambassador also congratulated the newly formed government of Nepal led by Prime Minister Balen Shah, expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation would deepen further during his tenure. He also shared updates on developments in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
During the program, the ambassador highlighted the candidacy of Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (2027–2028) and sought support from the international community.
The reception featured a ceremonial cake-cutting and toast between the chief guest and the ambassador, symbolizing the enduring friendship between Nepal and Bangladesh. The event concluded with a dinner attended by around 380 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps.
