5 killed in road accident

BIRGUNJ, Feb 12: Five people were killed and seven others injured after a Bolero Jeep (Na 1 Ja 2124) heading for Kathmandu from Birgunj fell 50 meters down the bridge near Kulekhani dam, at Makwanpur on Sunday afternoon.



Among those killed four are Indian nationals, including a woman and child. [break]



Minbahadur Lamichhane, sub inspector at Area Police Office, Bhimphedi, informed that three members of an Indian family died in the accident. Deceased Sunil Kumar Raya, his wife Tunpa and their five-year old son Sanku were residents of Kolkata.



Likewise, RK Karna, 50, of Darbhanga, India and Abdul Karim, 40 of Budhanilakantha, Kathmandu were also killed in the accident. Driver of the vehicle Bibek Lama of Amlekhgunj has been absconding.



The five injured are undergoing treatment at Manamohan Memorial Hospital, Farping while the other two injured are receiving treatment at Hetauda Hospital. Police said among the injured, three are in a critical condition.



Local Ratna Thapamagar said he had seen the driver fleeing with a black bag in his hand.



The vehicle which was carrying eight Indian nationals had left Birgunj at 11 am.
