RAUTAHAT, Nov 10: Four people died in an accident in Chandranigahapur Tuesday when the motorcycle they were traveling on collided with a mini truck, said the police.

Bibek Singh, 22, and Kamod Shah of Auraiya VDC-2, Jaya Prakash Gupta, 25, and Rupesh Kumar Yadav, 26, have been identified as dead ones. Yadav, Shah and Singh died on the spot while Gupta died while being rushed to Chandranigahapur hospital, Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Yadav, chief of Area Police Ofifce in Chandranigahapur, informed.
The motorcycle, NA 1 PA 2068, heading toward Gaur from Chandranigahapur and the mini truck, NA 5 Kha 9791, heading towrads Chandranigahapur from Garuda, collided at Chandrapur municipality VDC-13 at 5 am.
DSP Yadav informed that the truck has been impounded by the police whereas the driver is at large. He said the police have already launched a hunt to nab the driver. The four deceased were travelling to Auraiya VDC to celebrate Deepawali and Chhat.
Due to the ongoing strike in the sourthern part of the district, motorbikes carrying at least three passengers along the 42 kilometers Gaur-Chandranigahapur road section has become a common sight. Each passenger has to pay from Rs 300 to Rs 500.
Five accidents have already taken place along this road stretch involving motorcycles hired to ferry passengers. Nine people have died while more than 10 have been injured in those accidents.
Kaushal Khan Mithala of Birta informed that frequent accidents are taking place as motorcycles carry up to four people at one time.
“Not a single vehicle can ply inside ininer Madhes due to the banda imposed by Madhesi Morcha,” said he. “The youths in rural areas have been taking advantage of the banda and using motorcycles to transport people.”
