Nepali migrant workers stuck on Indian border denied entry

KATHMANDU, March 31: Hundreds of Nepali migrant workers returning home from India are stranded in Dharchula on the Indian side of the Nepal-India border since the last few days after the Darchula district administration barred them from entering Nepal citing the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown.

DANG, March 31: After a girl who returned from France to Nepal recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the government sought the whereabouts and conditions of others who came in the same flight. This included a young woman from Dang, Laxmi Oli. As the name was also revealed, she soon became a target in her own town in Dang. According to her, everything has changed for her since then. And this continues, even when she has already tested negative for COVID-19.

8,500 lockdown flouters faced action in a week

KATHMANDU, March 31: Police briefly detained as many as 8,500 individuals for wandering outside their homes against the government order during the first week of nationwide lockdown.

The virus which first emerged from Wuhan of Hubei province in China has already taken a pandemic turn. Bearing in mind the global health threat posed by it, several countries have gone into lockdown, as a precautionary measure against the deadly virus. In this connection, the Government of Nepal also announced a weeklong national lockdown beginning from March 24, which was extended Sunday to last till April 7. The extension was as per the Cabinet meeting decision acting on the recommendation of the High-level Task Force on Coronavirus Infection Prevention, Control, and Treatment headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel.
