Russia must heed Nepal's concerns

Foreign Minister NP Saud has requested Russia to repatriate Nepali citizens, who have joined the Russian army after the war broke out with Ukraine on February 24, 2022. During his meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin on the sideline of the NAM summit in Uganda's capital, Kampala, on Friday, FM Saud said that Nepal does not have a policy of sending citizens to foreign armies except under the traditional arrangement with some countries.

Nepal Police currently operates under a 68-year-old law. Despite the promise of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha to introduce a new law governing the country's police administration ten months ago, progress has stagnated, limiting it to mere 'discussion' and 'commitment.'

In a concerning development, Chitwan district has reported four deaths from scrub typhus in the first six months of the current fiscal year. Among those dying of the typhus, one was from within the district and the remaining three from outside the district. Officials at the District Health Office, Chitwan said that there are 163 confirmed cases of scrub typhus out of 3,254 tests.

In yet another tragic news coming from Russia, another Nepali national, who was fighting alongside the Russian army in Ukraine, was killed.  The deceased has been identified as Sonu Sunar of Kathebar of Pyuthan Municipality-4. Sunar’s friend, who was injured in the war, informed the family back home about the tragic news. It is learnt that Sunar, who was working in Qatar, had left for Russia a few months ago in the hope of making a lucrative income.
