SIRAHA, Jan 22: Even as the family of Sanjay Singh Koiri of Chandrodayapur-2, who was abducted on January 7, heaved a sigh of relief after he was released Saturday morning with cut wounds all over his body, a technical assistant from Kusaha Lachhmuniya Village Development Committee (VDC) has been kidnapped Friday night in yet another case of abduction in the district.

"We are on the verge of losing our sanity by these incidents of abduction. One more has been kidnapped before another was released," said the Chief of Siraha Police Rajesh Lal Karna, confirming that the family of Das has lodged a complaint about his abduction.

With the abduction of Das, the total number of people abducted from Siraha has reached 10 this year.

Ram Karan was riding his motorcycle (Sa 2 Pa 2486) with his nephew Deepak Das when a group of around half a dozen persons stopped their bike on the way, left the nephew at the scene with his limbs tied and rode away toward south taking Ram Karan along. The family revealed that the abductors called and told them Ram Karan has been taken to India and that he would be released only after the payment of Rs 400,000.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Karna blamed Nepali criminal gangs staying across the border for the incident and said that an emergency meeting of district security committee decided to seek help of their Indian counterparts on the issue.

SP Karna said the criminals hatch their plot in Bihar, India and then cross the border to execute their plan. "We have been keeping an eye on two underground outfits. If we manage to get our hands on them with help of Indian counterparts, the recent spate of grave crimes in the district would be greatly controlled," he stated.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Siraha Narayan Prasad Bidari said special requests have already been made to the Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) and to the district magistrate across the border seeking their help in controlling the increasing crimes in the region.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Sanjay Koiri returned home with cut marks made by razor blade all over his body. Relatives said he has been kept on drips at home and the family has not allowed either police or media to talk to him. The abductors had demanded Rs 900,000 for his release but the family is tight lipped about how Sanjay returned home.

The relatives of Koiri and his villagers had held relatives of the abductors captive with the permission of police to put pressure on the kidnappers after the administration could not secure his release.

After ascertaining that the mobile phone used to make ransom calls belonged to one Santosh Mahato of Asanpur, the relatives of Koiri, with the help of some Chandrodaypur residents, held Santosh´s brother Anil and another of his relative Sandip Mahato captive on Thursday.

After Koiri´s release, Anil and Sandip were handed over to the police. DSP Jaya Raj Sapkota acknowledged that Santosh´s mother Ram Kumari, his brother Anil and Sandip are in the police´s custody for investigations.
