Year's highest water flow in Mahakali River

MAHENDRANAGAR, July 21: The water flow in the Mahakali River has been recorded at 2,00,500 cusecs, the highest in the year so far, due to incessant rains received in the far-western hilly districts over the last few days.



With the increase in water flow, the Banabasa bridge over the river along the Nepal-India border has been shut, according to Gaidachowki police post. The Indian authority generally ban commuters from using the bridge when the water flow exceeds 1,00, 000 cusecs at the bridge. [break]



The water flow in the river was recorded at 50,000 cusecs on Wednesday evening. The red light has been switched on at the bridge as a danger signal. The increased water flow has also started eroding parts of Bhimdutta Municipality-11, 12, 13 and 14 of the district.
