Explorers had spotted 37 wild donkeys in Upper Mustang in 2004.
The team led by Raju Acharya on Wednesday publicized the finding in Pokhara following 53 days of exploration in Humla.
Acharya added that they have also found signs that suggest the existence of wild yaks.
He said that they have also found dung and footprints of the wild yaks, besides a recently decomposed head of the dead mammal.
The team went up to the height of 5200 meters for the study.
Acharya informed that they have studied wildlife along the Nepal-China border with the help of camera trapping, observing, and interaction with the local residents.
“If we are not mistaken Chakpalung has the highest concentration of wild donkeys in the country,” said Acharya, adding that they were concentrated at a huge grazing plateau.
The team had set up a camp in the plateau, which is a two-day walk from the nearest human settlement, to study wildlife.
“Limi is a paradise for wild animals. We also found many species of wild animals, including the rare and endangered ones in the area,” Acharya said.
The explorers also urged the government to relocate 181 households in the region and declare it as a conservation area.
As per the report made public by the team, more than 20 rare species, including snow leopard, fox, red bear as well as many endangered wild birds are found in the area.
