KATHMANDU, June 6: Senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai said on Saturday that the Maoists failed to achieve the revolutionary goals set by the party while launching the “People´s War”.

“We could not drive the revolution to its perfection and sabotage the existing power structure. We were forced to compromise due to the existing national and international conditions,” said Dr Bhattarai while speaking at a function organized to release a documentary on forced disappearances.

Bhattarai also said the Maoists turned out to be a weaker force before the alliance of "domestic and international regressive forces" and had to quit the government. He argued that the Maoists failed to bring change in the country due to resistance from regressive forces. He slammed the Nepali Congress and the UML for preventing the Maoists from taking action against army chief Rookmangud Katawal.

Bhattarai also accused the new government of sabotaging the achievements of the Maoist-led government. “The puppet government has yet to settle the distribution of ministries among its coalition partners, but it has already started revoking the decisions of the recent Maoist-led government,” he said.
