Subba had led the administration of Beldangi Refugee Camp for a year in 2004 and had been carrying out underground activities since 2007. He had announced establishment of URFB in Samchi, Bhutan and declared an armed rebellion for the establishment of republic Bhutan.
Subba, who had been living in Beldangi camp with his wife, son and daughter, was accused of various criminal activities, including murder of Bhutanese leaders Shanti Ram Nepal and KB Khadka.
“Subba was on the police´s wanted list,” said chief of Area Police Office, Kakarbhitta Devi Prasad Fago. He claimed that Subba´s murder was the handiwork of dissenting rebels in URFB.
Subba had expelled Tara Mukarung, Kishore Rai, Furba Tamang and KB Tamang from URFB on February 15, 2009, who later formed another underground outfit named Liberation Army of Bhutan (LAB).
Subba had issued press statement last October claiming that LAB had threatened to kill him. He had claimed that around a dozen leaders struggling for Bhutan´s liberation were under threat from the outfit.
