The meeting withheld the General Secretary’s proposal to review the party’s ideological course—People’s Multiparty Democracy (PMD). It however revised the PMD, the party’s ideological doctrine, for the first time since it was introduced by former general secretary Madan Bhandari, over the issues of state restructuring and federalism.
Party source said majority central leaders had urged the general secretary to shorten his 80-page document.
Khanal in the document has stressed the drafting of a new constitution as a major task of the party. While criticizing the Maoist activities, his paper has also stated that there is no any alternative to continuing with the working alliance with the Maoists.
The Central Committee meeting also endorsed the amendment proposal of the party’s statute. The revised statute has proposed for multiple positions in the party including chairman, vice chairman, general secretary and deputy general secretary. All these four major posts will be elected through the party’s National Convention, according to the new statute.
The meeting will continue Monday.
