“UML has committed no mistake by staying in the government. So there is no need for us to quit it,” Khanal said at an interaction organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Kaski.
Pointing at the continuation of violent activities committed by the Maoists, he urged the Maoist leadership to bring positive changes in their conduct.
He said that there was a need to fight against anarchy and criminal activities unleashed by the Maoists. “The UML will no longer accept the way Maoists are trying to rule the country on the basis of threats, gun and muscle power,” he said, adding, “We will retaliate against such activities.”
Khanal also blamed the Maoists for protecting the killer of his party activist Prachanda Thaiba. He informed that PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal had given assurance to punish the accused and that his party was waiting for the government to take action accordingly.
He urged the Nepali Congress to join the government and work on the basis of consensus and collaboration to write the new constitution on time.
