Two fraudsters held in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, March 25 : Police have arrested two people for trading in fake US dollars for Nepali rupees in cheaper exchange rate.

According to Metropolitan Police Crime Division, the arrestees have been identified as Chiring Dorje Lama, 22, of Sindhupalchowk district and Sukman Gurung, 25, of Gulmi district.The duo were arrested from Budhanilkhantha of the capital city.


The pair had fleeced a hotel operator Chandra Mani Pandeya of Rs 5,00,000 by promising him US dollars at a cheaper rate.

They also place a dollar bill each at the top and bottom of the paper bundle to give it a genuine look.

The fraudsters used to swap papers in the size of dollar bills for Nepali currency notes in a solitary place.

"The con artists usually request the victims not to count the dollar bills in public places to evade the police, and flee the scene.
