An unidentified group opened fire on Akalu Sahani at Dohori-6, some 5km east from district headquarters Kalaiya, on Sunday night.
A local said the villagers caught two of the gang and severely beat them up. Subash Mukhiya died on the spot while Bhola breathed his last on the way to hospital.
Sahani, who were shot at chest and arm, is being treated at the Narayani Regional Hospital, Birgunj. The motive behind the shooting is not known, according to police.
