CHITWAN, June 25: Prithivi Highway—one of the major road links between the Capital and rest of the country—was Saturday reopened for one way traffic, nearly 12 hours after it was closed due to a landslide.

The highway was reopened after partial clearance of the landslide at Darechowk in Chitwan. Earlier, heavy rainfall throughout last night prevented authorities from swinging into action. [break]

A bulldozer from the Road Division Office, Bharatpur, partially cleared the landslide that obstructed traffic from 10 pm last night. Landslide clearance is still in progress.

According to local residents, soil debris left uncleared after the construction of a rural road above the highway fell on the highway and blocked traffic. Chitwan police said two-way traffic will resume from this evening.

Three days ago, another landslide at the same place had obstructed vehicular movement.
