CHANGDHANGDI (SYANGJA), Dec 11: Local tomato producers in Syangja, who did not have a proper market for their products within the country, have now been enjoying good returns as they have found a new market in Gorakhpur of India.

Tomato produced in Waling municipality and its adjoining areas are being supplied via Butwal and Bhairawa to Gorakhpur.[break]

Traders estimate vegetables worth Rs 200,000 are being exported to Gorakhpur daily. According to traders, vegetables like tomato, cauliflower, bean, gourd, smooth gourd and chilly are on high demand in India.

“There is a big demand for the tomato produced here,” told Krishna Dhobi, a trader told Republica, “We have also been getting good prices for other vegetables.”

As it is more profitable to sell vegetables in India, traders have been supplying their produce to Gorakhapur directly.

Sushil Regmi of Sirubare, Baglung -7 said it was a huge relief that the Indian traders entered their village to buy their products.

According to the traders, tomato produced in Syangja is of high quality. Tomatoes especially of Amita, Makis, Bris, Srijana and Winsary genus are mostly produced in Syanja.

Almost 1,000 farmers of Waling- 7 and 8 and Sorek, Changchangdi and Aledi Village Development Committee (VDC) are involved in vegetable farming.
