KATHMANDU, May 9: At least three people were shot dead and five seriously injured in Pakari of Saptari district as property ownership dispute between two families took an ugly turn Friday night.
Two of them died on the spot while another died while undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan, according to Chief District Officer of Saptari Ram Bilash Raya.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh Mandal, Ranjit Yadav and Sakaldev Mandal , all from Pakari-1 of Saptari.
Mandal family members Mashir, Dheema, Shantosh and Chhotu were injured in the shootout. Two of them are undergoing treatment at BPKIHS and are reported to be in critical condition. Police constable Bindu Yadav who was in home leave was blamed for opening fire when Ramesh and Ranjit were quarreling over the ownership of the land.
CDO Raya said the police are investigating into the shootout. "Police have arrested five people under suspicions of being involved," said Raya.
