For Mocktan, going vintage and creating his personal style appeal is his definition of fashion.
“I don’t consider myself stylish but just happen to create my own,” said Mocktan who is the managing director of Eleven11, an event management, film production and advertising agency. [break]
And it shows.
At work, Mocktan was dressed casually retaining his spin of vintage code. A classic, slightly faded leather bag hung by the wall along with some ties and his Ray-Ban Aviators set on the desk, which are a part of his vintage collection. Dressed in a pair of brown vintage Levi’s corduroy, equestrian belt, a black and white checkered shirt and brown Oxford shoes, he shared his obsession with the clothing that represents the gone-by era.

“There is an edge of style,” he said of vintage wears. “They’re handmade and personalized. There’s this edge factor about them.”
Taking about his collection of shades, shoes and apparels, Mocktan said he inherited some of the collectibles from his father, one of them being his possessed Aviator shade. Having lived almost seven years in Delhi, Mocktan said he does almost all of his vintage shopping in the Indian capital and lamented that there aren’t any such stores in Kathmandu. He also shared instances of trading his personal apparels and accessories for vintage ones.
“I traded my Aviators to get a Clubmaster,” he said.
And his list of vintage items doesn’t end with it. His closet has space for his classic leather jacket, an altered version of his father’s suit and accessories range from his collection of tie pins and cufflinks to classic Casio G-Shock watch and Rado Diastar, which was launched in 1962. The young professional also has his adoration for shoes.
“The most expensive stuff I’ve bought is my shoes,” he talked about his Valentino shoes. “But I’ve only worn it twice,” he gushed.
The style savant who is a vintage fanatic however doesn’t have any style icons.
“I look up to my parents,” he said. “My sister is pretty stylish.”
And looking around, in the streets of Kathmandu, though he doesn’t see a crowd or a scene for vintage style, Mocktan said he likes the “punk hair and teen style.”
“People think vintage clothes are for old people,” he said. “But I think, now, the trend is changing.”
