Besides being a Prefect and President of Chelsea’s Social Service Club and Red Cross Society, Jon has also been working on his novel. [break]
He is a gold medalist in the United Nations Youth Debate on the topic of “The role of youth in achieving the Millennium Development Goals” and participated in various inter-college debates and panel discussions. His teachers describe him as a very well-behaved and honest student.
“I always believe in my teachers and try to incorporate their advice in my daily life,” added Jon.He shares his beliefs, inspirations and experiences as follows:
Please describe your college life.
I was sure that I wanted to do A-Level since 8th grade. I loved the whole new college life. I made great friends and got free time compared to school which allowed me to enhance my skills and get in other activities.
The best part about college is the hut-like canteen atmosphere. We often hang out there and engage ourselves in all kinds of talks.
How have you been fulfilling your duties as the President of Social Service Club?
I’ve always felt sad when I see other people suffer and had a strong urge to help them. What we’re doing through our club might not make a huge difference but we’re doing the best we can.
Our first project was Spread a Smile through which we invited around 150 children aged between five to17 of whose parents’ were in prison and organized a cultural event for them. We also donated books and stationeries to them.
We staged a play at Gurukul from which we were able to raise Rs 18,000 for the furnishing of libraries at schools in Parsa district.
Recently, we did Hunger Campaign at Kathmandu Mall showcasing the talents of our club members. We collected Rs 25,000 to help Jamuna who was a malnourished child and forwarded the proceeds to an NGO which works for children like Jamuna.
I’m happy with what we’ve been doing but often pressurized because I have to act as a balancing link between the club members and teachers when each has a brilliant idea to share. Nevertheless, I think leadership teaches a lot.

What novel have you been working on?
I’m hugely inspired by writers like Sidney Sheldon and Dan Brown. So I’m writing my own mystery novel. It’s a story of a son of a millionaire in the States who gives up his father’s property and comes back to Nepal to work as a pharmaceutical engineer. He discovers many aspects of life but it’s too late for him to react.
What are your future plans?
Earlier, I wished to become a pilot but now I’ve decided to do law. I’ve been doing public speaking since 6th grade and I’m very fond of it. In order to debate, one has to constantly keep updating himself with the issues around the world and thus it enhances one’s personality.
What else do you enjoy doing?
I love watching How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory series and reading novels. I also enjoy talking about science with my friends.
