The comfort zone

KATHMANDU, Sept 27: “So promise me only one thing, would you? Just don’t ever make me promises.”

– Brandon Boyd

Would I let somebody else interfere with my addictive nature? No. I’m not a conventional addict: shooting speedballs or doing coke with rounds of JD to get hammered dead; no. The borders of lightly-vigilant rehabilitation strikes out and there’s that single shot to presumably have been the last and the next thing you know there are pins and needles stuck in the love stricken addict’s lifeless arms.[break]

Initiating the opposite end, however, would be the virtuous addict like me. If someone loves trekking, isn’t just the exhilarating flow of being footloose – virtuously addictive and not evil in anyway? Yes.

The virtuous addicts are the ones who strive ahead with their heads held high, and keep in mind that their heads are high without the use of superfluous substances.

If people just walk the roads of least resistance, they would laugh at clowns using acids that never perpetually manifest. The use of acid gets them high but they’re too high on idiocy already.

Naïve Grounded Theory: If someone is habituated and addicted to eating, say, goose meat, he might slowly lessen the intake of the goose if he decides to be a vegetarian; a student likes watching TV, yet he might still shut it off during his exams; if somebody likes to inject brown sugar into himself, then that person cannot not inject brown sugar, right?

The effect: With the person who had to be a vegetarian, he could substitute the goose with something a little less meaty – say, spaghettis or eggs. If, on the other hand, the drug fixated person runs out of brown sugar, he would steal or kill to get more drugs and gain that state of sugary mind again.

Conclusively, taking away one’s comfort zone leads every human to naturally carry out the next shift of subconscious acts – to reach previous levels of the mind’s elevation – as degrading as the acts may be.

The advantage is that the tendency of negative habits could be known and ergo, diagnosed with substitutions. If a kid wants a candy, he’ll want a candy and not milk or cheese.

There are no magic tricks involved in simply identifying one’s reflexes of habits that are addictive. Yet some people never learn, do they? In dysfunctional cases of the majority: the cure might even involve replacing toxic drug/contents with a slightly lesser of toxicants. At the end of the day, I still fear for the reflexes ending up being invalid. Like the time my infatuation with Lara Croft substituted with Angelina Valentine and is still shifting radically to the habit of trying to comprehend being in the shoes of a real addict with impulsivities.
