Organizing a press meet at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato two parallel football bodies´ officials, NFA general secretary Indraman Tuladhar and the ANFA vice president Karma Tshering Sherpa proposed Thapa for ANFA president.
"There is no need for going in the election as the new ANFA statute has incorporated all our demands. If disputes occur then they can be resolved through the statute." The greatest achievement of the statue is that football clubs in districts could also be promoted to ´A´ division. The statute has made the general assembly the most powerful body, Tuladhar said. "We will go in the election under Thapa´s leadership and develop the culture of consensus," he added.
Speaking at the press meet, NFA President Bijay Narayan Manandhar, who is also the coordinator of the statute drafting committee, said both the soccer bodies (ANFA and NFA) are dedicated to the development of football in the country so they propose Thapa for ANFA president. Manandhar said NFA will be dissolved as soon as the ANFA election concludes.
ANFA Vice Presidents duo Kumar Jang Thapa and Karma Tshering Sherpa proposed Thapa for president on behalf of ANFA.
Gita Rana has already declared her candidacy for the post of ANFA president. Thapa commenting on the candidacy of Rana said she just wants to hold the post of president and is not dedicated to the development of football.
He further said, "Rana has not been involved in any football activities directly or indirectly for the past eight years."
The ´A´ division football tournament in the nation remains obstructed for the past three years due to disputes between ANFA and NFA regarding the ANFA´s status.
The disputes came to an end after the working committee meeting of ANFA passed the new football statute jointly prepared by NFA and ANFA on June 26 in Chitwan. ANFA and NFA had reached a seven-point agreement in December to resolve the dispute and formed a joint statute drafting committee.
The two sides on December 7 last year signed a seven-point agreement for drafting a new and democratic statute and holding the obstructed A division league.
