KIRTIPUR Jan 31: Thailand secured a commanding 8-wicket win against the Netherlands in the second match of the Nepal Women’s T20 Tri-Series at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Friday.
Batting first, the Netherlands posted 122/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Thailand chased down the target with ease, reaching 125/2 with 12 balls to spare.
The Netherlands had a shaky start as both openers, Phebe Molkenboer and Sterre Kalis, were run out for 2 and 4 runs, respectively. Captain Babette de Leede anchored the innings with a solid 52 off 50 balls, while Iris Zwilling contributed 28 off 35 deliveries, helping their team cross the 100-run mark. However, the rest of the Dutch batting lineup struggled, with no other player reaching double figures.
For Thailand, Thipatcha Putthawong was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets, while Onnicha Kamchomphu chipped in with one.
In reply, Thailand lost opener Nattaya Boochatham early for 10, but a crucial second-wicket partnership between Aphishara Suwanchonrathi (28) and Nannapat Koncharoenkai (56* off 50 balls) steadied the innings. Nannapat’s match-winning knock featured five boundaries, and she found support from Natthakan Chantham, who remained unbeaten on 23 off 25 balls.
Iris Zwilling and Caroline de Lange took a wicket each for the Netherlands.
The Netherlands defeated hosts Nepal in the first match on Thursday by 20 runs to secure two points. Thailand, the Netherlands and Nepal are the 13th, 16th and 20th ranked teams in the women's T20I rankings.
The participating teams in the series will play each other 3 times. The team at the top of the points table will be the winner. Nepal will play Thailand in the second match on Saturday.
