PORT ELIZABETH, April 28: Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya put on an opening stand of 127 from 77 balls on Monday to set up a 92-run win for the Mumbai Indians over the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). [break]

Tendulkar blasted six boundaries and four sixes for 68 in 45 balls, and Jayasuriya smashed four sixes for 55 from 32 deliveries to rally Mumbai to 187-6.

In reply Kolkata were bundled out for just 95 runs in 15.2 overs. The pick of the attack for Mumbai was Lasith Malinga, who took 3-11 to take over as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, and Abhishek Nayar, who claimed 3-13.

Kolkata had a bad start in pursuit of the imposing total, losing captain Brendon McCullum, who played to early in the second over to a slower Malinga delivery and was caught by JP Duminy at point for one.

They slumped to 2-17 when Chris Gayle on 12 nicked a ball to Tendulkar in the slips off his West Indies teammate Dwayne Braco.

In the 11th over Brad Hodge, who scored 24 in 22 balls, was clean-bowled by a Nayar straight delivery.

Nayar then had Arindam Ghosh (0) caught by Tendulkar in the 13th over to reduce Kolkata to 5-81.

Two runs later Yashpal Singh on 8 edged Dwayne Bravo to wicketkeeper Pinal Shah.

Malinga then cleaned up the tail with some express deliveries, bowling Ajantha Mendis and Ashok Dinda for ducks in successive balls in the 16th over. Last man Anureet Singh did not bat after sustaining an injury while fielding.

Man-of-the-match Tendulkar said he thoroughly enjoyed his innings.

"When you are striking the ball well there is no better feeling than that," he said, adding of his partnership with Jayasuriya: "I thought it was a good partnership. I got off to a good start then Sanath picked it up nicely and had the strike. It doesn’t matter as we got the total."
