Due to the strike launched by teachers, who are in protest since February 8 demanding educational and financial reforms, more than 1,500 students have been forced to stay out of schools.
Worse, the District Education Office (DEO) of Khotang remains unconcerned by the schools closure. "We have learnt that teachers in Patheka have been agitating for the past few days," said Bishnu Rai, a section officer at the DEO. "However, we have no idea about the closure of schools as yet."
Agitating teachers say they will let schools open only partially so far as their demands are not met.
Agitating teachers, headed by relief quota teacher Rajan Baniya, have been demanding that schools improve educational quality, make public their financial details and increase teachers´ salaries.
