RAUTAHAT, Sept 15: Teachers´ Union of Rautahat on Sunday enforced shutdown of all government and community schools in the district demanding immediate action against the locals involved in the manhandling of a school principal. [break]

The teachers resorted to protests after a few locals attacked Ramashree Sah, principal of Katahari Primary School at Matuawa VDC on Friday. Another teacher Raj Kishore Yadav also was injured while trying to rescue Sah.

According to Satyanarayan Sahani, chairperson of the school management committee, the locals were enraged after Sah appointed Yadav as a new teacher without informing them. A total of 505 educational institutions remained closed on Sunday.

“Closing down the schools will not resolve the problem but will worsen the situation,” said Sahani.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Uchit Sahani and Laxman Sahani on the charge of attacking the school principal. “We are investigating into the incident,” said police chief of Rautahat Govinda Ram Pariyar.
