Tamang, Khati in semis

KATHMANDU, May 28: Gyan Bahadur Tamang and Deepak Khati advanced into the semifinals of 19th International High School Karate Championship on Tuesday winning their respective matches in the boys´ 50 kg weight category.



Likewise, Jeevan Magar and Kishor Rai made it to the semifinals of boys´ 55 kg section winning their matches held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. [break]



Other players to reach the semifinals in the boys´ section were Nabin Manandhar and Rajiv Ranjit in 67 kg, Ravi Kumar Shah and Rajesh Tamang in 60 kg and Bal Krishna Saud and Raju Upreti in 45 kg.



In the girls´ section, Sapana Maharjan and Shobha Balami secured semifinal berths in the 50 kg weight category.

Likewise, Sumita Sulu and Rita Khadka in 60 kg and Nirmala Rai and Kabita Ruchal in 67 kg also made it to the semifinals of their respective weight categories.



In the junior girls´ section, Nirjala Paudel and Pasang Lama entered the semifinals in the 40 kg weight category. Other players to reach the semifinals were Laxmi Gurung and Kusum Khadka in 45 kg, Roshni Pandey and Shrimika Bhujel in 50 kg, Sumita Moktan and Rojita Ranjit in 55 kg and Sushma Rai and Mingmar Lama in 60kg.



Meanwhile, Indian players dominated the quarterfinals in the senior boys´ section as Kaushab Bhaisha and Umairanain Ansari, both from India, secured semifinal berths in the U-84 kg weight category. Similarly, another Indian pair of Himanshu Sharan and Nitin Bondard made it to the semifinals of above 84 kg weight category.



The tournament will conclude on Wednesday.
