According to District Health Office (DHO), three in Lagam VDC and two others in Lekhaparajul VDC died on Monday. Earlier, one death was reported in Ghoroto. In Lagam, 51 persons are suffering from the disease while 100 have taken ill in Lekhaparjul, according to Ramesh Prasad Adhikari, chief of DHO.
An all-party meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Rudra Prasad Paudel on Tuesday morning has decided to step up efforts against the disease in the district. The meeting decided to dispatch a reserve team of health workers to Salkot, Aballing, Bagedichaur, Mehalkuna and Kafalkot villages. The meeting has also appealed to the government to send a medical team and medicines by helicopter to Lagam village. It takes two days trek to reach Lagam from the district headquarters.
Adhikari said the outbreak this year has been more severe than before. Contaminated water and stale food have been blamed for the outbreak.
