These days, many students prefer to study in Malaysia because the country is recognized as an ideal gateway to learn from its great diversity, and rapid economic development. [break]
“Indeed the visitors which are among students and parents are increasing every year in order to get more information about higher education in Malaysia,” expressed Mohd Khairi Bin Samsudin, a second secretary of Kedutaan Besar Malaysia at a press conference held at the Embassy of Malaysia, Pulchowk.
Similarly, he mentioned that currently, the higher education opportunities in Malaysia are provided by 20 public universities, 24 polytechnics, 37 community colleges, 36 private universities, 4 foreign university branch campuses, about 450 private colleges, as well as various other higher institutions from UK, US, Australia, and so on, which offer twinning and franchised degree programs through partnerships with Malaysian colleges and universities. They provide parents with many options of international education at affordable fees.
One of the fine reasons why International Students should choose Malaysia to study in is to receive quality education at affordable cost. Datin S. Malliga, managing director of Study Asia Academic Advisor of Malaysia said that Nepali students prefer to study in Malaysia because of the reasonable price. The tuition fees, living expenses and admission fee is three times cheaper comparing with the fees of the countries like UK, USA, Australia and so forth.

Talking about part time jobs, Malliga mentioned that students are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week only during semester breaks. And the students are permitted to work in limited areas only, like restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini markets and Hotels.
Besides the affordability, ‘2+1’ Twinning Degree program is the hallmark of study in Malaysia. The twinning arrangement has helped many local and international students studying in Malaysia to save significantly cost wise in their quest for internationally recognized bachelor’s degree programs.
Malaysian private institutions have made arrangements with overseas collaborative universities whereby students can enroll locally into programs of “2+1” Twinning Degrees. In a twinning program, students can complete the course in either 1 year or 2 years in Malaysia, out of the 3-year degree program before going overseas, to the twinning partner universities, to complete the remaining duration of their degree.
“One of the outstanding features of the Twinning degree program is that the students register with both the local private education institutions and the foreign university (dual registration). And upon successful completion of the local section, he or she is guaranteed admission to the next level in the campus of the twinning-partner university, in the UK, USA, Australia and various other countries,” said Basu Rijal, managing director of Google Educational Foundation.
He exemplified that if a student enrolls in Malaysia for an engineering Twinning degree program then he or she will be offered three years of study in Malaysia with the last one year in Australia.
Similarly, Rijal clearly illustrated about a ‘3+0’ foreign bachelor’s degree program offered by Malaysian Universities. A ‘3+0’ bachelor’s degree program from foreign leading universities are conducted by private higher educational institutions in Malaysia for students to complete their course entirely in Malaysia.
Therefore, the 3+0 bachelor’s degree program allows a student to complete the entire foreign degree program right in Malaysia, at a much reduced education cost.
As there are wide choices of study options, such as pre-university programs, twinning degree courses, 3+0 degree programs, as well as foreign university degree programs, choosing Malaysia to receive higher education is definitely worth a ponder.
