In another match, Arihant thrashed Siddhartha Center by seven wickets. Siddhartha elected to bat but was all out for 91 runs in 19 overs. Kundan Singh and Gaurav Sethia claimed three wickets each for Arihant. Arihant met the target in 14.3 overs losing only three wickets. Nepal wins chess tourney
KATHMANDU: Prakash Nepal of Jhapa won the title of Far-western Open Chess Tournament on Friday in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur. Nepal remained undefeated in the tournament and collected eight points from nine rounds. He received a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Local player Basant Rawal and Krishna Bahadur Kepchhaki Magar of Janakpur finished second position with 7 points each while Tirtha Bahadur BK secured the third position.
Thapa to lead NSC Employee Association
KATHMANDU: The general assembly of National Sports Council Employee Association held in Biratnagar has elected hockey coach Ranjan Thapa as its new president. Thapa won the election by a huge margin garnering 78 votes while karate coach Mahesh Maharjan got only 16 votes. Narayan Dev Rana was the president of the previous committee. Karateka Ganga Ram Maharjan was unanimously elected as the senior vice-president of the 23-member committee. Saraswati KC was elected as vice-president under the women´s quota while Phanindra Paudel retained his post as general secretary.
