Also, lawmakers demanded action against the Nepali officials who damaged the country´s image and caused for players´ morale down by quarrelling inside the stadium at the last minute when the players´ were readying themselves to fight for medal.
Sports authorities meet Debu
KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Sports authorities paid a visit to injured judo player Debu Thapa on Monday at Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj.
Debu is undergoing treatment at the hospital after returning from Dhaka where she was injured in a lift mishap during the 11th South Asian Games.
Pitambar Timilsina, vice-president of National Sports Council, met Debu and inquired about her health condition. Timilsina assured Debu all possible help including insurance and asked if she was in need of any immediate help.
Debu said she is getting better and asked the officials to take care of two other judokas who were injured in the incident. “I´m glad that you came, otherwise I would have felt let down,” she said.
Meanwhile, two injured players Ramesh Magar and Kaluman Tamang arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday afternoon. Kaluman was in a wheelchair while Ramesh was on crutches.
The two players were taken to the Orthopedics Hospital at Jorpati. They will be released from the hospital after two weeks.
Kantipur clinch girls´ basketball title
KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Kantipur English School clinched the title of the Kwiks Inter-school Girls´ Basketball Tournament on Monday.
Kantipur registered a 31-23 victory over Teresa Academy in the final.
With the win, Kantipur bagged a purse of Rs 51,000 while the runners up Teresa received 25,000.
For the third place match, Valley Public had a 31-20 win over TIA. Valley Public received Rs 15,000.
The most valuable player of the tournament Rohini Limbu of Kantipur bagged Rs 5,000 while the top scorer of the tournament Samichan Bista and best three-pointer Anusha Malla of TIA received a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each.
The tournament was organized by Kathmandu Academy.
Manoranjan Sports victorious
NEPALGUNJ, Feb 8: Manoranjan Sports Club defeated Adarsha Higher Secondary School by 20 runs during the Nagarik T20 Cricket Tournament on Monday.
Manoranjan scored 151 runs in 20 overs at the loss of eight wickets after Adarsha opted for fielding winning the toss. Salim Sheikh scored 27 runs while Shakir Ansari scored 24. Aman Shrestha, Sudeep Shrestha and Roshan Basnet took two wickets each for Adarsha.
Meanwhile, Adarsha were restricted to 139 runs in 19.5 overs losing all wickets. Saubhagya Bhusal topscored with 60 runs for Adarsha. Haseeb Ansari and Naushad Ansari of Manoranjan took three wickets each.
Saubhagya was adjudged man of the match.
Tuesday´s match will be held between Angels School and Deepika School.
