SPORTS BRIEFS: Coca-Cola Cup qualifiers begin

KATHMANDU, June 21: Nawaratna Boarding School won the opening match in boys´ category of the regional qualification tournament for Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school National Football Tournament on Monday.



Nawaratna defeated Occidental Public School 4-2 in tiebreaker as the regular time ended in a goalless draw. Top four schools from Kathmandu Valley will qualify for the final round of the tournament from the ongoing qualifiers. [break]



Sushil Jang Bahadur Rana, secretary at Ministry of Youth and Sports, inaugurated the tournament while All Nepal Football Association President Ganesh Thapa and General Manager of Bottlers Nepal Pvt Ltd Somendra Bhattacharya addressed the opening ceremony.



The national winners of the tournament will get Rs 200,000 while the runners-up will bag Rs 100,000.





Morgan, Trinity win



KATHMANDU, June 21: Morgan College and Trinity ´B´ started the First Nobel Cup U-19 National 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament with victories in men´s category on Monday.



Morgan edged past Bagmati 33-10 as Sujan Pun scored 10 points for the winning side. As the tournament has provision of announcing the team that first scores 33 points as winners, Morgan won the match during the second quarter. Trinity ´B´ defeated Rockets 33-11.



Likewise, Prime, Xavier International, Golden Gate, Triton and Stuphulls won their respective matches on Monday in the tournament organized by Nepal Basketball Association and sponsored by Nobel Academy.
