Sports brief: TT tourney to select nat'l team

KATHMANDU, Aug 4: All Nepal Table Tennis Association (ANTTA) will organize the Second National Table Tennis Players´ Selection Tournament at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Kathmandu from Friday. According to ANTTA General Secretary Kuber Prakash Singh, the association will organize a pre-selection tournament, where 300 players from 27 districts are to participate, on Wednesday and Thursday. The top 16 players of the two-day tournament in both male and female sections will then be selected for the three-day selection tournament, where they will compete with the top 16 players of the 35th National Table Tennis Championship held in Dhangadhi earlier this year. ANTA informed that it would also rank players in the selection tournament and launch a special training camp for the players selected for the national team. Table tennis does not have a national team at present. [break]



NSRA Open begins today

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The Second NSRA Open Squash Championship, organized by Nepal Squash Racket Association (NSRA), begins on Monday at the Satdobato Squash Complex, Lalitpur. According to NSRA General Secretary Suresh Gurung, the championship will feature singles events in men´s, women´s, masters´, junior girls´ and junior boys´ sections. According to NSRA, 23 players have registered their names for the men´s singles while the women´s singles features only eight players. Meanwhile, 17 players in masters´ section, 13 in junior boys´ and six in junior girls´ sections are to participate in the tournament. Hira Bahadur Thapa and Bhawana Sunuwar are the defending champions in the men´s and women´s sections respectively. The tournament will conclude on August 10.



Sepak takraw players selected

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Sepak Takraw Association (NSTA) has selected 12 players for a training camp beginning Monday to prepare for the upcoming 28th King´s Cup International Sepak Takraw Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 16 to 22. According to NSTA General Secretary Netra Gurung, the 12 players were selected from the National Open held in Kathmandu on Saturday. NSTA will pick six players from among the 12 on August 20 based on their performances in the training camp. The selected players are Anil Gurung, Prem Phal Magar, Allen Gurung, Anil Jargha Magar, Govinda Burja Magar, Ashish Ghale, Shailesh Dahal, Aman Pode, Raju Tamang, Rupesh Adhikari, Sujan Dangol and Laxman Magar.
