Local people complain that the local administration is showing indifferent attitude though smugglers are illegally exporting goods ranging from grocery items to river products, such as aggregates and sand, to India through Kunauli and other smaller customs points. [break]They claim these activities are happening with the support of Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police personnel.
An APF border security source in Rajbiraj said Kunauli, Swarnapatti, Kusaha, Pato, Ramnagarkodarkatti, Banniya and Chhinnamasta are customs points from where smuggling is taking place.
Smugglers illegally export grocery items, clothes, food, motor parts, electronic goods, sand, aggregates, apples and timber to the southern neighbor, the source informed.
“Every day goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees are smuggled to India with the help of junior to high-ranking police officers,” said the source.
Bechan Yadav, chief of APF Border Security Force in Rajbiraj, didn´t rule out the possibility of smuggling. He, however, blamed Nepal Police for not taking strict action against smugglers.
Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Singh Basnet, chief of Saptari District Police Office, claimed that police were attempting to control the smuggling in coordination with the APF.
