Singh stresses timely elections

KATHMANDU, July 30: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Prakash Man Singh on Tuesday reiterated that the upcoming elections to the Constituent Assembly would be held in the stipulated time despite boycott threat by the CPN-Maoist.



Speaking to journalists at his residence in Chaksibari this morning, leader Singh said that there is no alternatives to the scheduled November 19 elections. "Efforts are being made to bring all the political parties on board the election process," Singh said, adding that the scheduled date cannot be changed. [break]



On the occasion, Singh insisted that the upcoming CA polls would be held as per the 11-point agreement forged among the four political parties and the 25-point provision for removing the constitutional difficulties issued by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.



Saying that the achievements of the people’s movement cannot be institutionalized without elections, leader Singh emphasized on timely elections, arguing that the elections are essential for political stability and consolidation of a republican political system in the country.
